In a landmark decision during its inaugural meeting on December 15, Professor Cristina Siligardi from the Department of Engineering “Enzo Ferrari” at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore) has been elected as President of the Italian Ceramic Society (I.Cer.S) for the triennium 2023/2026.
Leading the Charge in Promoting Ceramic Technology
As President, Professor Siligardi’s primary role will be to represent I.Cer.S at an institutional level and spearhead initiatives aimed at promoting and enhancing the dissemination of ceramic technology. She will also be responsible for convening and presiding over the meetings of the Board of Directors.
“I am deeply honored to have been chosen for such a prestigious position. Together with the entire board of I.Cer.S, I hope to continue promoting ceramic culture and proposing initiatives to strengthen the technical and scientific knowledge of the ceramic sector,” commented Professor Siligardi.
A Distinguished Career and Commitment to Research
Professor Cristina Siligardi is not only a distinguished academic but also a prolific researcher. She currently serves as a Professor of Materials Science and Technology at Unimore, as well as the director of the inter-university second-level master’s degree program in Business and Ceramic Technology. Additionally, she coordinates the “Ceramic Task Force” working group at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia and serves as an associate editor for the “Journal of the American Ceramic Society.”
Throughout her career, Professor Siligardi has authored or co-authored over 190 scientific papers in international journals. Her research interests span a wide range of topics, including glass materials, traditional ceramic materials such as ceramic tiles and bricks, functional coatings, cool roof and cool colors materials, and more recently, photocatalytic oxides for microplastic degradation.
