Mapei reaffirms its Leadership in Sustainability 2023

Mapei

Mapei’s commitment to building a sustainable future has been recognized for the third consecutive year with the Sustainability Leader 2023 award. This prestigious accolade is part of a list featuring 240 Italian companies acknowledged as the most sustainable, created in collaboration with Il Sole 24 Ore and Statista, a leading market research company specializing in rankings and corporate data analysis.

The study focused on analyzing numerous Italian companies based on their sustainability reports and financial statements. The analysis considers the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and examines three dimensions: environmental, social, and economic.

Through research and innovation, Mapei continuously seeks advanced solutions to reduce environmental impacts and promote a culture of quality and long-lasting construction. “For this reason, in 2015, we established a Corporate Environmental Sustainability Team dedicated entirely to environmental sustainability of products and processes,” says Mikaela Decio, Corporate Environmental Sustainability Manager at Mapei. “We have always worked to measure and reduce the environmental impacts of our products throughout their life cycle through Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs). The results are verified, reported, and published in certified documents called Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).”

This year, the launch of the Mapei Zero Line has allowed us to contribute even more to sustainable construction. The Zero Line represents another significant step on Mapei’s sustainability journey. It offers fourteen products with zero impact on climate change*. The CO2 emissions measured throughout the life cycle of these products have been offset for 2023 through the purchase of certified carbon credits, supporting renewable energy projects and forest protection.

Mapei is also actively engaged in other sustainability initiatives, such as the recent “Make a Difference, One Bag at a Time” campaign. This project, promoted by Mapei in collaboration with Consorzio REC (Circular Building Recovery), Cartiere SACI, Comieco, Assografici, and Gipsac (Italian Group of Paper Bag Manufacturers), aims to encourage the collection of empty paper bags from construction sites. These bags are then taken to a recycling plant to produce recycled paper for the production of new bags, creating a true circular economy process. The collection, focused solely on increasing the material destined for new life, extends to all recyclable paper packaging, not just Mapei bags.

Mapei’s ongoing commitment and successful sustainability projects, including the Zero Line and “Make a Difference, One Bag at a Time,” demonstrate their dedication to environmental responsibility and their contribution to a more sustainable future in the construction industry.
